Pass Christian Girls' Weekend

2003 Girls' Weekend in Pass Christian

Actually, our first girls' weekend was in 1998, but for some reason (?) we can't find any pictures.  They are probably somewhere, but, of course, none of us can remember where they are or who has them!  One of the girl's mother was from Pass Christian, and there is a place called Jackson Colony down there where several of us went as children.  All of us did go to the coast somewhere in the "good old days" when it was such a fun vacation spot.  We do have pictures of us and our 2003 Pass Christian pre-Katrina trip.

This is one of the two lightposts on either side of the entrance road of Jackson Colony that are still standing after Katrina.  All is not lost!

We had to swap around to get us all in a photo!

Looking at photos from the past.

Before dinner this night, we went over to Gulfport to visit my cousins at Pelican Oak.  What wonderful memories we have of visiting their beautiful home and enjoying the breathtaking sunset view of the Gulf from their balcony.
Sadly, this was the aftermath of Pelican Oak after Katrina.

2009 brought our next Girls' Weekend, but there wasn't anywhere  in Pass Christian to go, so we went to Orange Beach to one of our houses.  While Orange Beach's personality is much different from Pass Christian's, we still had quite a memorable time together.

Here's to another fun time!

Boiled shrimp just can't be beat!

Dinner at Cosmos on Canal Road
We couldn't leave without going down to the beach to have our pictures taken!

The latest Girls' Weekend this past weekend was in the new house owned by sister and husband of one of us.  They so graciously invited us to stay for our get-together, so we settled in and made lots of new memories.  The landscape is certainly different now, but Pass Christian is as beautiful as ever, and it is so reminiscent of the "old" coast.  The beach is pristine, the water is sparkly, and the sea oats are growing abundantly.

This is the gorgeous new beach house, and it is perfect for us gurls (or duhls, as my grandson used to say)!  Plenty of room for us to spread out!!  Much thanks to friend's sis and hubby for sharing with us. They are the bomb!
The PCYC is not there, but the harbor is back and expansion work is being done to accommodate the many bigger and more beautiful boats and yachts.
Lunch at Shaggy's in it's outdoor environment really put us in a beach frame of mind!

Dinner at Old Cuevas Bistro began with appetizer fried oysters wrapped in bacon!  YUM!

A Sunday afternoon ride over to Ocean Springs to stroll around town was shopping at it's best!

WE are the antiques now!!  Smile!

Had to have this picture!  Actually, the retirement home across the street had several older ladies in wheelchairs and walkers sitting outside with their aides, but they went inside before we could get their picture.  We thought that could be us one of these days before too long!

Here's where everyone found something to buy to take home!

Dinner at Trapani's Eatery in Bay St. Louis was the perfect way to end our day.

Trinity Episcopal Church in Pass Christian (post-Katrina).  Notice how it now had to be built up on stilts above the ground to follow code.

Nobody makes 'em as good as this!!!

Getting ready to go to the airport and end our fabulous weekend!
We hope we are aging gracefully, but to quote something from each one of us:  "It was such fun to all be together and be able to remember our childhoods and growing up and all of the wonderful connections.  Sharing the memories helped us all remember things we had forgotten (if we can remember what we forgot.....)!  Each one of us is a treasure to the others, and our friendships are so special.  We are so blessed to have created this tradition and we hope we'll keep it going for a long time.  The gifts, the laughs, the memories, the things we forgot but need to write down before our next get together so we don't forget again, but most of all the wonderful friends we have been for so many years.  How rare in today's world that we are all willing to continue to invest in the friendships developed so long ago and wanting to continue to keep that alive!  We are 'steel magnolias' for sure!"
