More Mississippi Treasures

Doris hasn't changed a bit since when I was growing up!
Doris Berry's Original Jackson Farmer's Market
There are lots of fresh farmer's markets where I like to go, but old habits die hard.  This is
Doris Berry's Farmer's Market located at the original (real) farmer's market in Jackson, MS, across the street from Memorial Stadium on North West Street. When the new farmer's market opened at the MS Fairgounds a few years back, Doris didn't move because of lack of space in the new building (she would take up about half of it) and because of the restricted business hours. Best place to get fresh vegetables in Jackson!  My mother and aunt before me shopped with Doris and Nell, so we continue to do so whenever we can.

Lots of homemade jams, jellies, relishes, and preserves.

Nothing's better than fresh boiled peanuts!

Ice cold watermelon just waiting to be devoured!

Chilton county Georgia peaches
My mouth waters just thinking about homegrown tomato sandwiches!
Silver queen corn just can't be beat.
Even though September is only half way over, the harvest decorations are appearing.
The chrysanthemums haven't blossomed out yet, but it won't be long until their colors burst upon the scene!

All shapes and sizes for your front porch or Halloween jack-o-lanterns.

Perfect gourds and dried corn for fall decorations.

Tomatoes, green beans, peas, cucumbers, new potatoes, and peppers.

Red peppers, green peppers, squash, okra, and eggplant.

Squash, onions, eggplant, and hot peppers.

What a delectable variety of fresh fruits and vegetables just waiting to be chosen and taken home!

Go on by the farmer's market and get you a mess of fresh vegetables to have for supper.  Be sure you make some scrumptious hot, homemade cornbread to accompany all those "to-die-for" veggies!  And wouldn't some peach cobbler and ice cream taste good?  Bon appétit, y'all!
