Harri & Mag's European Adventure

Harri & Mag's Trip to Paris, Brussels, & Amsterdam

We took a trip to Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam for two weeks, and I want to share some of the pictures.  I took so many that I'm having a little trouble organizing them, so I thought I'd start with just pictures of us to prove it was actually our trip.  Later, I'll probably just use pictures of what we saw.  A dear friend went with us to Paris for a week, then just Harri and I continued the trip to Brussels and Amsterdam after she went home.  It was a trip of a lifetime, for sure, and we have some wonderful memories that will last forever!
Sitting in the gardens outside Notre Dame
Stopping for refreshment along the way!
The great, unsung Cluny Museum houses SO MUCH! The six medieval "La Dame à la Licorne" (The Lady and the Unicorn) tapestries are here. The complex itself is probably the most outstanding example of medieval civic architecture in Paris....and the Hôtel de Cluny is partly built upon the remains of Gallo-Roman baths dating from the third century (known as the Thermes de Cluny), which are famous in their own right. We saw early medieval sculptures from the seventh and eighth centuries, and also works of gold, ivory, antique furnishings, stained glass, and illuminated manuscripts.  This was one of Harri's favorites!
Heading to dinner our first night out in Paris
Making our way toward the Eiffel Tower

What a gorgeous view we had of Paris from the top of the Eiffel Tower.

Nice photo op!

At the Louvre (along with 50,000 of our closest friends!)

At Giverny touring Monet's home and gardens

More walking in Paris near the Seine

We can hardly wait to eat lunch after all the walking!

One of our many exquisite dining experiences in Paris

Another scrumptious lunch

We didn't have a single bad meal!
Place des Vosges, the oldest square in Paris, lies at the heart of the fashionable Marais district, and is a fine example of 16th century town planning. A symmetrical square, it is surrounded on all sides by red brick and white stone houses, with grey slate roofs, whose doorways all open out on to vaulted arcades.
Maison de Victor Hugo is the house where Victor Hugo lived in for 16 years from 1832–1848. He wrote some of his major works here: Marie Tudor, Ruy Blas, Les Burgraves, Les Chants du crépuscule, Les Voix intérieures, a large part of Les Misérables, and was visited by Lamartine, Vigny, Dumas and Gautier.
Dining near Victor Hugo's home in Paris...
where we had escargot and delicious onion soup!

WE MADE IT VIA TRAIN TO BRUSSELS !
We had to resort to taking our own picture since it was just the two of us!
At the beautiful Grand Place in Brussels
Time to relax with a little red wine

Enjoying my Belgian waffle and cafe latte

This was our fabulous seafood dinner one night in Brussels--so you can say that we've had mussels in Brussels now!
Here we are in the Grand Place in Brussels!

We got chocolates at Elisabeth for folks in Harri's office.

ALL ABOARD FOR AMSTERDAM!!!
Catching an early Thays fast-speed train to Amsterdam

Waiting for our 1:00 tickets to the Van Gogh Museum
The "Van Gogh at Work" exhibit was so fabulous!
Walking around Amsterdam over canals and through tiny streets.
Of course I made Harri pose in the rain in front of the Cafe Brandon!

Sitting at a cafe trying to warm up after walking around Amsterdam.
Hot tea and a brand new warm scarf did the trick!
